Job Summary: The Data Scientist III oversees data management and integration efforts across the university, state, and federal agencies. Develops processes to extract, transform, and load data into common data repositories. Coordinates creating new databases, performing database backups and restores, user maintenance, and ensuring database performance. Provides guidance, training, and/or oversight of other Data Scientists. Additional Department Summary: The Culverhouse College of Business at The University of Alabama is seeking a Research Data Scientist to join the Institute of Data and Analytics (IDA). The Data Scientist III will lead and support advanced data analysis efforts across multiple IDA projects, with emphasis on statistical modeling, machine learning, and effective communication of results. This individual will collaborate on high-impact research initiatives such as the Southern Regional Drug Data Research Center (SR-DDRC) and projects involving Alabama Medicaid, as well as interdisciplinary efforts in grant writing, manuscript development, and cross-campus collaborations.

: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of data science or analytics experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of data science or analytics experience. Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in statistical methods such as regression, longitudinal data analysis, and machine learning. Experience working with large data sets and data management tools. Proficiency in Python required, with additional experience in statistical programming languages such as SAS or R preferred. Familiarity with data visualization and dashboarding tools is a plus. Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic research through peer-reviewed publications. Experience mentoring students or junior analysts in research settings. Experience contributing to grant proposals and research manuscripts is strongly preferred.
