Description: This is a 1099 contract role to start, with the potential to convert to full-time employment in the new fiscal year.
About the Role
: We are seeking a Senior Python & SAS Developer to support the modernization of federal statistical and survey processing systems. This role focuses on transforming legacy SAS-based workflows into scalable, open-source solutions using Python (including PySpark) and modern data architecture patterns. You will play a key role in re-engineering backend processes, optimizing database logic, and supporting both legacy SAS systems and modern cloud-based, serverless applications.
Key Responsibilities
: β’ Modernize legacy SAS-based processes into Python-based solutions (PySpark or R where applicable) β’ Refactor and re-architect applications into supporting cloud-based and serverless data processing workflows β’ Translate procedural logic, stored procedures, and functions into optimized PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL) β’ Develop, maintain, and support existing SAS (Base SAS) workflows β’ Work within a Linux-based environment for development and deployment β’ Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret
requirements
and translate them into technical solutions β’ Write, test, and deploy production-ready code; participate in code reviews β’ Use Git for version control and contribute to team development standards β’ Support backend workflows, job processing, and system performance tuning
Requirements
: β’ 4+ years Python development, including data processing or backend systems β’ 2+ years Hands-on experience with Base SAS in production environments β’ 4+ years experience developing and refactoring stored procedures, functions, and database logic in Oracle PL/SQL and/or PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL) β’ 4+ years working in Linux environments β’ Experience modernizing legacy systems into open-source or cloud-based architectures β’ Experience with serverless or containerized environments (AWS Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) β’ 2+ years AWS experience (Lambda, SQS, SNS, IAM or similar services) β’ Experience working with batch processing, ETL pipelines, or data workflow orchestration β’ Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing database performance β’ Ability to translate legacy logic into scalable, maintainable solutions β’ Strong communication skills in a remote environment β’ Must be a U.S. Citizen (federal contract requirement)
