Overview
We are seeking a Senior Backend Python Developer to support a high-profile Global Markets Supervisory and Surveillance program within a major financial institution. The team is working on a large-scale Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiative, which represents approximately one-third of the organization’s funding for the year. The primary focus will be the retirement of an existing vendor surveillance platform and the migration/consolidation of its functionality into an enterprise supervisory platform. This is a critical, high-visibility initiative spanning multiple lines of business, with significant backend development, frontend integration, alert generation, and business-user interaction. The ideal candidate will have strong Python and REST API development experience, with a predominantly backend background and experience working with both relational and object-oriented/object databases.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and enhance backend applications and services using Python.
Build and maintain REST APIs supporting global markets supervisory and surveillance capabilities.
Contribute to the migration and consolidation of functionality from a legacy/vendor surveillance platform into a centralized supervisory platform.
Develop functionality supporting alerts, surveillance workflows, monitoring, and supervisory processes.
Work across multiple lines of business and collaborate closely with technology, product, compliance, risk, and business stakeholders.
Support frontend teams by providing reliable backend services and APIs.
Work with both relational and object-oriented/object databases.
Participate in application enhancements, implementations, migrations, upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.
Investigate and resolve production issues and incoming support requests.
Contribute to audit remediation and regulatory-related technology initiatives, including self-identified and audit-identified items.
Translate business

into scalable technical solutions. • Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. • Work in an Agile/enterprise development environment and communicate effectively with technical and business teams.

Python – Strong hands-on development experience.
REST APIs – Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful services.
Backend Development – Strong backend engineering experience with exposure to:

6–15 years of professional software development experience.
Strong experience taking ownership of backend development
