Job Description
Position: Product Designer II Location: Corporate Office in Stevens Point, WI Reporting Relationships This position reports directly to the Drafting & Design Manager, and it has no direct reports.
Position Summary
The Product Designer II is responsible for combining preliminary design information with input from sales, structural engineers, and customers to develop optimal product solutions for moderately complex projects. This role involves preparing detailed drawings of product components and systems using Autodesk Inventor (3D) and/or Autodesk AutoCAD (2D) to support product development, project proposals, engineering, manufacturing, and customer approvals. The Product Designer II also prepares manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs), maintains project drawing files and related documentation in accordance with company policies, and performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities
Identify opportunities to improve profitability, utilize design for manufacturing (DFM) principles, and do Hoshin Kanri work (lean manufacturing principles and deployment).
Build teamwork between the Sales department, Engineering department, Manufacturing department and other functional groups.
Combine preliminary design information with additional input from sales, structural PEs, and the customer throughout the customer approval and design process of moderately complex projects/jobs to create an optimal product solution.
Prepare drawings of product components and systems using Autodesk Inventor (3D) and/or Autodesk AutoCAD (2D) for product development, project proposals, engineering, manufacturing, and customer approval purposes.
Maintain project drawing files, associated records, and other documentation per policy.
Perform all other duties as assigned
Education
/
Experience Required
Minimum of a 2-year Mechanical or Civil Technology/Engineering degree.
Proficient in Autodesk Inventor (3D) preferred or similar 3D parametric modeling software
Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD (2D) preferred.
Proven ability to manage multiple jobs at one time.
3-7 years of experience working in a design position, preferably in a steel manufacturing setting.
Must have a minimum of 1 year of previous design experience in the racking industry. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General understanding of steel manufacturing methods and processes such as welding, forming, drilling, punching, etc.
Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
Excellent math skills.
Basic computer skills (Windows), Microsoft Office.
Exposure to a CAD data management system – Autodesk Vault preferred.
Good interpersonal/communication skills – both verbal and written.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Operate CAD equipment, plotter, and other drawing reproduction equipment.
Self-starter that can work with minimal supervision.
Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a quality minded.
Able to work in a very fast-paced environment. Personal Attributes Needed
